Common Questions About Truce

I view our time together as a series of private “campfires” along a larger journey. The campfire is a place of pause—where you can rest, reflect, and share what’s on your mind as we gradually make our way up life’s mountain. I won’t carry you up the trail, but I will be right by your side every step of the way, making sure you feel heard and supported. At our first campfire (the intake session), we’ll gather a clear picture of your background and strengths so we can navigate what lies ahead. This may include completing an assessment or two, if we agree that this could be helpful. From there, each campfire is a space for warmth, validation, and insight—where I’ll offer helpful observations, evidence-based tools, and humor when it fits. As you encounter new “terrain,” I’ll serve as a guide and compass, and I’ll celebrate your wins as you reach new heights.

During the initial intake session, we’ll work together to determine a session frequency that feels compatible with your presenting challenges, therapeutic goals, and financial comfort level. While I typically meet with clients weekly or bi-weekly, especially in the beginning, it’s important to choose a cadence that feels right for you and works for both of our schedules.

All sessions are 53-55 minutes long. Additional time, unfortunately, cannot be added to the end of a session if a client is late. If a client is over 15 minutes late, this will be considered a no-show and may incur a missed session fee of $100.

From time to time, a client may wish to schedule a 1.5 or 2-hour session to process something more fully. I’m happy to accommodate these requests whenever possible. However, please note that when billing through insurance, the therapist must provide clinical justification for the extended time, and coverage/reimbursement is not always guaranteed.

If you’d like to use insurance, Truce is in-network with BCBS PPO & Blue Choice, Optum-UHC / United Healthcare, Aetna, and Cigna. A “superbill” can be provided for out-of-network clients to request reimbursement.

Rates for self-pay and out-of-network services are as follows:

  • 15-Minute Phone Conversation – Complimentary
  • Initial Intake Session (53-55 min) – $175
  • Ongoing Individual Sessions (53-55 min) – $155

I also offer a limited number of sliding scale spots to clients with financial limitations. Please refer to the “Offerings” page for a more complete breakdown of the process or feel free to reach out with questions.

Credit/debit cards and HSA/FSAs are acceptable forms of payment. This information is collected via a secure platform.

If you remember the campfire analogy from the first FAQ, I’ll share a spoiler: there’s no single “summit” where life suddenly becomes free from pain or challenges—these experiences are part of being human and are invitations for growth. The climb is often messy and uncomfortable. However, there is good news—there comes a point when you can pause, catch your breath, and take in the view to recognize how far you’ve come. Many people begin to feel small shifts within the first few weeks, even if incrementally. The ultimate goal is to help you develop the skills and awareness to return to a “home base” of self-trust and steadiness, no matter what life brings. Another fun spoiler, to quote Brianna Wiest—”the mountain is YOU.”

Reminder: It is important to determine if there is a set number of sessions covered by your insurance prior to starting therapy.

At this time, sessions are primarily geared toward individuals. Occasionally, a client may request to invite a partner or family member with whom they are trying to work through challenges. There are many benefits to this, including enhanced communication and an opportunity to clarify misunderstandings. It is important for us to first determine the intention behind this and discuss limitations to confidentiality. ” While “guest appearances” can be helpful, the client’s healing remains the priority, and informed consent is necessary.

I currently only offer virtual therapy sessions. However, I value the profound connection and impact that true face-to-face sessions can create and plan to offer an in-person option in the future. Stay tuned!

It is understandable that circumstances may arise in which a client needs to cancel or reschedule a session. In such cases, Truce kindly asks that this is communicated within 24 hours of the appointment. If less than 24 hours’ notice is provided, the first missed session will be waived as a courtesy; any subsequent occurrences may be billed at a rate of $100.

Please note: Insurance does not reimburse for missed or late-cancelled appointments. Clients are responsible for these charges out-of-pocket.

Yes—confidentiality is paramount when it comes to therapy, and something I take very seriously. What you share in session stays between us. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe to speak freely and authentically, without fear of your information being shared. That said, there are a few important exceptions to keep in mind. Therapists are legally and ethically required to break confidentiality in situations where:

  • You are at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else
  • A child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult is being abused or neglected
  • I am ordered to release information by a court of law

If any of these situations come up, I will always do my best to talk with you about it first.
