How the Insurance Process Works

Therapist's Role

  • Before the client’s first session, the therapist will conduct a brief verification of benefits, providing explanation around:
    • Deductibles and amount paid to date, if applicable
    • # of sessions covered
    • Any copays
  • If Truce is in-network with the client’s insurance, any copay will be collected at the time of service and the therapist will bill insurance for any remaining payment.
  • If Truce is out-of-network with the client’s insurance, the standard session fee will be collected at the time of service, and a “superbill” can be provided so the client may request reimbursement.

Client's Role

  • It is ultimately the client’s responsibility to obtain a full understanding of their benefits. It is advised that the client contact the member phone number on the back of their insurance card to gather this information, using mental health service code 90837 (individual sessions).
  • Truce requires that clients provide accurate/updated information regarding their insurance policy/plan and payment form.
  • The process of obtaining out-of-network reimbursement after receiving a “superbill” is to be conducted by the client.

Cancellation Policy

It is understandable that circumstances may arise in which a client needs to cancel or reschedule a session. In such cases, Truce kindly asks that this is communicated within 24 hours of the appointment. If less than 24 hours’ notice is provided, the first missed session will be waived as a courtesy; any subsequent occurrences may be billed at a rate of $100.

Please note: Insurance does not reimburse for missed or late-cancelled appointments. Clients are responsible for these charges out-of-pocket.
